Updated on April 25th, 2025, by Thomas Hawkins: With the release of Patch 8 for Baldur's Gate 3, twelve new subclasses have been added to the game, one for each of the game's main classes. Paladin players may now choose the Oath of the Crown, an Oath devoted to the Ideals of Civilization and upholding law and order. With abilities allowing them to draw enemy attention, empower their allies, and even sacrifice their own health to protect others, the Oath of the Crown is ideal for protecting and healing your team.
When it comes to equipment, the Oath of Ancients Paladin will get a ton of mileage out of the " Hellrider's Pride " gauntlets, which can be stolen from Zevlor during act 1, or obtained as a reward for completing the "Investigate Kagha" quest. These gauntlets grant resistance to bludgeoning, slashing, and piercing damage to any creature healed by the wearer, essentially working like the Blade Ward cantrip. Helping out the refugees will also award players with Wapira's Crown , which heals the wearer for 1d6 whenever they heal another creature. All of these synergize with Healing Radiance tremendously well and will also apply when using Lay on Hands. To shine in a support role, add The Whispering Promise . This ring applies two turns of Bless to anyone the wearer heals, allowing the Paladin to pulse a short-lived bless whenever they use Healing Radiance, or apply it alongside their healing with Lay on Hands.
In terms of Multiclassing, the Arcane Archer plays very well with some Rogue levels for Sneak Attack and Cunning Actions, with the Thief subclass providing an extra bonus action, which is very helpful, while the Assassin subclass offers incredible burst damage at the start of a fight if you get the drop on them. A few levels in Ranger, especially Hunter for the Hunter's Prey bonuses (Horde Breaker is particularly helpful), can also be quite effective.
Updated on April 18th, 2024, by Thomas Hawkins: With the release of Patch 8 and the addition of Bladesinger to the Wizard Subclass list, new strategies and options have become available for this class. This update focuses on discussing the Bladesinging subclass and magic items that synergize well with its main playstyle.
Their other leveling choices make them both a controlling force in melee combat and a powerful support from a distance, though most of one's time should be spent on maximizing damage output while in Wild Shape.
Depending on your choice of Arcane Shots, you could also make use of the Psychic warrior DnD Damage equipment (like the Braindrain Gloves and Boots of Psionic Movement), or the Sparkstruck Set (like The Speedy Lightfeet, Jolty Vest, and Sparkswall) to great effect. Poison damage equipment also deserves a mention here, though the sheer amount of poison-resistant foes makes it impractical.
If you are dead set on including a character in your party, simply talk to Withers to respec them to one of the optimal Druid companion classes listed above. This way, you won't miss out on that character's questline, and you won't have to suffer from an improperly balanced party.
The Enchantment School grants the abilities "Enchantment Savant" and "Hypnotic Gaze" at level two. "Enchantment Savant" allows them to scribe Enchantment spells into their spellbook for half the normal price , while "Hypnotic Gaze" allows them to charm a foe within melee range and prevent it from moving or attacking (if the target fails a Wisdom saving throw.)
Druids are one of the most diverse, complex classes in Baldur's Gate 3 thanks to the sheer variety of options available to it. Druids are equally capable of being ranged spellcasters as they are close-up tanks, though the best BG3 Druid builds lean into buffing the latter.
There are a total of seven BG3 Circles (subclasses) Druid players can try out, each of which focuses on different aspects of the class, and offers a selection of unique skills, proficiencies, and other features. As you level up in one of these BG3 Druid subclasses, you will gain more abilities that are unique to your subclass choice.
In Baldur's Gate 3 , Druid builds can be enhanced further with the use of specific consumables. Certain potions, like the Elixir of Heroism, will grant combat-oriented bonuses for this best Druid build, while others, like the Elixir of Barkskin, will enhance the Druid's defenses, which tend to be low thanks to low-AC equipment that the class can use.
Much like the Battle Master, the Eldritch Knight benefits greatly from the Helldusk Armour, Boots, and Helmet. They can also make great use of the Helldusk Gloves, which add fire damage to your weapon attacks and a +1 bonus to spell attack rolls and spell save DC. They also grant +1 to Strength saving throws and allow you to cast Rays of Fire once per short rest, adding a useful ranged attack to your kit. These gloves can be acquired by killing Haarlep in the House of Hope. The Reaper's Embrace Armour looted from Ketheric at the end of Act 2 is a great alternative to the Helldusk Armor, offering incredible defensive utility without needing to fight Raphael for it. You could also use the Armour of Perseverance, which can be purchased from Dammon the Blacksmith if he survives all the way to Act 3.
