Coffee spills on your sofa can happen to anyone, and while they might seem like a disaster at first, you can easily reduce the impact and maintain your sofa's appearance with prompt action. The key is responding immediately with an appropriate cleaning technique based on fabric type.

First, don't panic. Grab a dry, absorbent towel or clean rag and gently blot the spill. Avoid rubbing, as this can push the coffee deeper into the fabric and spread the stain. Blotting helps soak up excess moisture before the stain becomes permanent.

Next, mix a solution of one tablespoon dish soap with two cups of warm water. Dip a clean cloth into the solution, wring it out so it's damp but not dripping, and gently dab the stained area. Start at the edges and move inward to avoid expanding the stain. After a few minutes, use another cloth moistened with fresh water to rinse the area and carpet pro wash away any remaining suds.

For leather sofas, skip the dish soap. Instead, use a damp microfiber cloth to lightly clean the area. Then, use a clean, dry towel to thoroughly dry the surface. You can follow up with a leather cleaner or conditioner to maintain the surface and prevent cracking.

If the stain persists, sprinkle a bit of baking soda over the area after it dries. Let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes to absorb any lingering moisture and odor, then remove it with a vacuum cleaner.

Refer to the sofa’s cleaning code or care tag prior to treatment. Some fabrics necessitate special care—using an incorrect cleaner might worsen the issue.

With quick action and the right approach, most coffee spills can be handled at home without calling in experts. Keep these tips in mind to preserve your couch and relax during your coffee breaks.
