It will likely take a short while before manufacturers are prepared to offer Gen 5 light-bearing models. IF YOU CARRY A GLOCK 19 WITH A LIGHT, note that the Gen 5 with a light will not likely fit your Kydex light-bearing holster. The Gen 5 also features only one pin near the locking block instead of the 2 pins common to recent generations. The location of the magazine release is good and I only have to modify my grip slightly to get my medium-sized hands into position to actuate it (as I do on every pistol made). In 1980, the Austrian Armed Forces announced that it would seek tenders for a new, modern duty pistol to replace their World War II–era Walther P38 handguns. In October 2025, Glock announced a major "right-sizing" initiative, ceasing production of over thirty variants to streamline manufacturing and introduce redesigned components to mitigate full-auto conversion. This led to lawsuits filed by the states of Minnesota and New Jersey in 2024, and legislation in darkpistols.com California in 2025 (Assembly Bill 1127), aimed at forcing design changes to prevent such conversions. The widespread adoption of the design has made the Glock rise in popularity and a subject of gun control debates.
First-generation models
Another lighting accessory is an adapter to mount a flashlight onto the bottom of a magazine.
